March 14 - April 14
(Non-Annual)

PassinArt: A Theatre Company presents John Henry Redwood’s "The No Play", a story about family bonds, profound love, and cultural connections.  The “No” title refers to signs generally displayed in the south during Jim Crow segregation.  "The No Play" conveys the racially divided world of Halifax, North Carolina in the late 1940s.  The Cheeks family, Rawl and his wife Mattie and their children call Halifax home.  Mattie is an African American woman struggling to raise her two daughters and protect her marriage after her husband leaves Halifax to look for work in Alabama.  While surviving the insurmountable effects of racism and bigotry, Mattie finds an ally in Yaveni Aaronsohn a Jewish scholar and writer who also must endure and overcome the reality of racial intolerance.  Yaveni is researching a book on the similarities and differences between the prejudice and victimization experienced by Black and Jewish people.  "The No Play" runs March 14 through April 14, 2019, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., and Sundays at 3 p.m. at the Interstate Firehouse Cultural Center: 5340 N.
