The Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge is a hidden gem located just 20 minutes north of the Portland-metro area, and hosts hundreds of species of birds and other wildlife. The Refuge is also the home of the annual BirdFest & Bluegrass Festival - the annual celebration of the fall migration of the Sandhill Crane. Thousands flock to Ridgefield every year to celebrate. Bring the family to enjoy a Sandhill Crane tour, bird language workshops, kayaking and big canoe trips on Lake River, naturalist-led hike, Chinookan clture activities, a Birder's Marketplace, bluegrass music, traditional salmon bake and more. It will be held on Saturday, Oct. 5, from 5 - 7:30. Most events are FREE. More online at www.ridgefieldfriends.org.
