Christmas Along the Barlow Trail

This 35th annual celebration is a FREE, festive gathering held on Mount Hood that features two special events associated with the history of the Oregon Trail, where it traversed around the Mountain’s southern flank.  This is an event for the entire family.  Featured is a traditional holiday festivity held at a pioneer village (the Oregon Country Settlement) along a section of the Oregon Trail through the Cascade Mountain Range, known as the Barlow Trail, in which the Willamette Valley-bound emigrant’s traversed a route along the southern flank of the 1,295-foot Mount Hood.  There will be storytelling, traditional Christmas caroling, Native American flute and pioneer flute music, FREE Christmas goodies and hot drinks.  This is also an opportunity to shop for unique historical and nature books, Huckleberry and other Wildberry jams, and specialty products made from this wildland bounty, that would be ideal for gifts..,.especially for those who are hard to buy for.  And, naturally, Santa Claus will be there on duty...MORE

Mark O'Connor's An Appalachian Christmas

Grand Tree Lighting Ceremony

Come and join us for this year's Grand Tree Lighting at the Oregon State Capitol. This event is free and open to the public.  We start the night at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 3 with a half hour choir performance from Sprague High School's jazz group Framework, followed by the tree lighting program at 5:30 p.m.  Close to 6 p.m., the tree is lit, followed by FREE refreshments in the Galleria and FREE photos with Santa (courtesy of Best Buy).  Holidays at the Capitol is made possible by our presenting sponsor, the Oregon State Capitol Foundation, and numerous other in-kind sponsors...MORE 

Holiday Ale Festival

Christmas Ships Parade
December 5 - 22

The boats, 14 to 65 feet long, are brightly decorated for the holiday season.  The ships draw thousands of residents each night to the banks of the rivers for their performances.  Up to 60 holiday boats are expected to make up the two fleets.  The privately owned vessels come from Portland, Vancouver, McMinnville, Salem and Hood River areas.  Some of the ships owners have been part of Christmas tradition for more than 30 years with many being part of the Christmas Ship fleet for over 20 years...MORE

Experience a new adventure for Gerda and the Deer from The Snow Queen, see said Snow Queen in full rave mode, go inside the secret relationship between The Grinch and his hapless dog Max, slide your way back to the 1950s, and witness a battle between heat and snow. The Great Figgy Pudding Caroling Competition

Together, Pioneer Courthouse Square and Portland Mall Management, Inc. are hosting the 6th Annual Great Figgy Pudding Caroling Competition that was originally held throughout Downtown in the early 90s. The Great Figgy Pudding Caroling Competition is a fun and festive competition that will bring caroling groups of all ages to the heart of downtown.
